MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 News) - A teacher at Hillcrest High School is on leave after several students came forward with complaints about his behavior.
According to Canyons School District spokesperson Jeff Haney, the teacher was placed on paid administrative leave a week ago while both an internal investigation with the district and an external investigation with law enforcement are being conducted.
Sgt. Melody Gray with Unified Police Department confirmed early Wednesday morning that a male teacher is currently under criminal investigation for sexual misconduct with several female students.
A phone call from a parent triggered the investigation.
"There was a parent who did express some concerns after speaking with some students at one of our high schools that there was some misconduct of a teacher towards students," said Haney.
Unclear, even to detectives so far, is how many students have complaints and how far back they need to investigate. Until the one or the other investigation is complete, and depending on the outcome, the identity of the teacher will not be released.
