SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Students from across the state packed the Eccles Theater Friday for a matinee performance of the hit musical Hamilton, but first they took to the stage themselves.
The 2,100 high schoolers were invited to attend at the discounted price through the Hamilton Education Program. In New York City and various stops on the Hamilton tour, the cast invites students from the community to participate in history with them by coming to the show and creating tribute pieces of their own.
Ninth grade student Sarah Lawson explained, “In order to get to Hamilton for $10, we had to do a final performance piece, a song, a poem, or a memorial to someone.” Each school selected one performance to represent them, and they performed for each other before the Friday matinee.
