HERRIMAN, Utah (News4Utah) – Excitement filled the air Wednesday morning as hundreds of middle school students greeted their fellow classmates with kind messages.
The messages are part of Fort Herriman Middle School’s new kindness campaign called, “Choose Kind.”
To start the first day of school, some students lined the hallway and cheered on other students, teachers and staff members, as they made their way inside.
In addition to signs with encouraging messages, some students gave out high-fives and handshakes.
The students met over the summer months to formulate a plan aimed at creating a culture of kindness at Fort Herriman with an environment where everyone is welcome and students connect with one another, teachers and school staff.
“I get the warm fuzzies in my stomach,” responded Caleb Curtis, a student at Fort Herriman Middle School, when asked why he chose to participate in the kindness campaign. “It makes me feel good that our school is making a change.”
The “Choose Kind” Campaign is the first of many that the students have planned for this year.
