This year, remember why you are celebrating the 4th of July by participating in the Military Families Campaign. Alicia Richmond from Chic on a Shoestring, joined Nicea DeGering, to explain how it helps, and what you can do. Plus, she shows us how to set a table for your 4th of July BBQ!

Table Runner

Start with a navy and white striped runner – throw it down the center of a table. This couldn’t be easier and it makes a festive and beautiful base for your food and beverage.

Serving Boards

Wooden serving boards – in all shapes and sizes (and even in the shape of the United States!) Throw your apps or cheese and crackers on them for a rustic, easy serving idea.

Beverage Station

Serve your beer and beverages on this weathered flag tray with rope handles and place these flag wood coasters on the side – Then use a great restaurant style pitcher for iced tea or water. A perfect beverage station where guests can serve themselves – making it easier for the host!

Silverware

Keep silverware and napkins in a 4 piece tray and bucket set with star detail.

Grilling

Richmond says Martha Stewart makes an entire COOK OUT! set (also perfect to bring as a hostess gift if you’re attending a 4th of July party as well). A pack of 6 stainless steel metal skewers makes grilling a cinch and ensure foods cook evenly – and they are less than $10! Pair with her incredibly delicious sweet and spicy BBQ sauce.

Dessert

Pre-packed, tied bags of Caramel Corn for dessert and for snacking during the fireworks – Place in a popcorn tin and let guests grab and enjoy during the fireworks display; it’s especially fun for kids as well!

This year, in salute to the nation’s Armed Forces, Macy’s and its customers nationwide will come together for a charitable giving campaign to support and empower veterans and military families. The give-back campaign, “Macy’s Salutes Those Who Serve” kicked off on Thursday, June 28 and it runs through Sunday, July 8.

The campaign will set up funds for select charities by receiving donations in-store and online. With a $3 donation, customers will receive, as a thank you, a 25% off coupon that can be used on select merchandise (discount is 15% off in some departments).

100% of the donations will benefit three veterans and military family focused organizations: Blue Star Families, Bunker Labs, and Team Rubicon. These charities focus on a number of programs that support current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, providing access to career development, caregiver support, entrepreneurship and business opportunities, as well as skills-based volunteering and community rebuilding activities, among other services.
