Health department cleans out Victory Rd. homeless camps

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – The Salt Lake Health Department and the Salt Lake City Police Department cleared out the hills behind the capitol building Thursday morning that are often used as camps for homeless people.

Detective Greg Wilking said, “We have health and safety issues in terms of the cleanliness, we have their health and safety with the rocks coming off the mountain, and we also have a lot of potential for wildfire.”

These cleanups happen regularly, and officials say they are opportunities to once again refer those living outdoors to homeless resources
