HBO suffers hackings

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) Last week HBO experienced hacking with it’s hit show Game of Thrones and that hacking hasn’t stopped. Utah Valley University cyber security expert Robert Jorgensen joined Good Morning Utah with Hailey Higgins to talk about those hacks.

The big news this week is that several HBO social media accounts, ranging the main HBO Twitter account to the Game of Thrones Facebook account.

It appears this is a group called OurMine. They are a group that has been known to access social media accounts of various high profile people. Mark Zuckerberg’s Pinterest account and Jimmy Wales’ Twitter account are among the victims.

They claim they hack to increase cybersecurity awareness. They also advertise their commercial services, offering to help companies secure their networks for a price.
The group responsible for last week’s hacking, which is the one that has been releasing episodes, contacted the website Mashable and gave them a list of passwords that supposedly belong to HBO. Mashable said they didn’t try them, but that they have no reason to doubt they are legitimate.
HBO is repeating that they aren’t really in communication. They really seem to be trying to keep it out as of the media.
