Government shutdown threatens school lunches

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – The State School Board says school lunches are only funded through January 31st because of the Government Shutdown.

School lunches are funded through the Department of Agriculture along with meals in child care and adult care centers. Individual schools are reimbursed for the food 30 days after being served, but due to the timing of the shutdown, officials say funding is only definite through the end of the month.

Local leaders say the only way parents can help is to reach out to their legislators and encourage an end to the shutdown.
