PARK CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Academy Award-winning actor Geena Davis was in Park City for Sundance Thursday.
She joined Zions Bank President and CEO Scott Anderson in honoring local women leaders at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Utah Women’s Leadership Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 28, in Park City.
As part of Sundance Film Festival, 10 honorees were celebrated for their leadership in business, politics, art, health care and philanthropy.
“It’s just really important that we change what the cultural message is so that we can reach equality in real life… We need to create a better world on screen so the real world can reflect it,” said Davis.
The following women will be in attendance and honored for their leadership:
- Jackie Biskupski, mayor of Salt Lake City
- Betsy Burton, owner of King’s English Bookshop
- Anne Burke, Illinois Supreme Court Justice
- Dr. Vivian Lee, CEO of University of Utah Health Care
- Susan Madsen, director of Utah Women and Education Initiative
- Donna Marriott, member of University of Utah’s National Advisory Council
- Sibylle Szaggars Redford, creator of “The Way of the Rain”
- Diane Stewart, founder of Stewart Family Foundation
- Kasandra VerBrugghen, executive director of SpyHop
- Shelley Thomas Williams, director of Zions Bancorporation
Davis also spent time talking about the organization she founded to improve gender balance in the entertainment industry.
