SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A gas leak in Salt Lake City forced some evacuations Wednesday afternoon.
Darren Shepherd spokesman for Dominion Energy said they received a call at 3 p.m. that a contractor had accidentally hit a gas line near 2600 South and 1500 East.
Shepherd said the building was evacuated while crews from Dominion Energy shut down the pipeline. There were traces of natural gas in the building, so Shepherd said they opened the building to allow it to air out and are waiting for it to dissipate as a precaution.
The houses to the north and east of the building were evacuated as well, according to Shepherd
Shepherd advised people to be careful when digging holes or working in their yard outside.
“It is springtime now, a lot of people are working in their yard. Whether it is digging a hole for a tree or a mailbox hole or a fence call 811 before you dig so that they can mark the area and ensure safe digging,” said Shepherd.

Officials said no injuries were reported as a result of the leak, however, traffic was moderately affected in the area.
