Gas explosion causes an apartment complex near Alta Ski Resort to catch fire

UPDATE: Fire crews will remain on scene until midnight Saturday to control hotspots. Keith Garner with Unified Fire says the cause of the gas leak is still under investigation. 


ALTA, Utah (ABC4 News) – Fire crews are responding to a second-alarm fire at an apartment complex in-between Alta and Snowbird ski resorts, dispatch confirms.

Unified Fire Authority crews are on scene at 9740 Bypass Road working to control the fire. Keith Garner with Unified Fire says crews were called to the scene after reports of residence smelling gas and hearing an explosion.

Garner says responding to the fire was difficult because it is on a steep hill that required hiking. The fire is being fought from the roof and has burned throughout the complex/

There are no reported injuries at this time.
