Fugitive arrested after attempting to run over officers, police say

SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC4 News) After several days on the run, police arrested a man they say nearly ran over two police officers.

Attillio Reed Renzetti, 22, was considered a probation fugitive and had active felony warrants out for his arrest when he was spotted by police in the area of 4100 S. Redwood Rd. Friday, Dec. 14.

Officers approached Renzetti’s car due to “suspicious activity.” A patrol vehicle pulled up behind the car while it was at a car wash. Another unmarked police vehicle pulled up on the side of the car wash building.

According to a probable cause statement, when officers began to approach the suspect car, Renzetti started to put the vehicle in reverse.

By this time, the officers were in front of the car with their firearms drawn, pointed at Renezetti ordering him to stop. Police said that’s when Renezetti began to “manipulate the vehicle and began driving right in the direction of two officers.”

They were nearly struck, but they were both able to jump out of the way.

Other officers began pursuing the car as it fled the scene. The suspect eventually crashed the car at apartments at 4770 S. 1565 W., but the driver took off.

Investigators confirmed the car had been stolen and they recovered paraphernalia items and multiple swords.

“Through investigative techniques” Renezetti was tracked down and arrested Wednesday evening without further incident.
