SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- On Saturday, Todd Snyder was out celebrating his birthday with his friends when he noticed something strange.
His friends say a woman who was “clearly intoxicated” was being ‘escorted’ to the men’s bathroom by a group of men.
“She showed obvious signs that she did not want to go with them,” Snyder’s friends told News4Utah.
They say when Snyder noticed the men had trapped the woman in the bathroom he took action.
His friends say he “tried his hardest to open the door so she could help the lady”. They say the men inside the bathroom with the woman immediately attacked him.
“This brave man put himself on the line to help a fellow human being out and ended up getting brutally beaten by several grown men,” they said. “He had extensive surgery on [Sunday] to have his jaw wired shut and have metal plates placed in his face and jaw as it was severely broken in a few spots.”
Police however cannot firm the events leading up to the assault. “Right now we have no evidence, or witnesses or victims that support that allegation. That theory. All we have right now, is we have a male adult victim that sustained an assault — a physical assault. We don’t have any information or evidence that leads us to believe there is a female at this point in the case,” said Detective Robert Ungricht with Salt Lake City Police.
Wednesday, police released surveillance photos of those they say may have been involved but Thursday officers say they were able to track down and interview each of them.
