LOGAN (ABC4 News) A former Utah State University football player is accused of rape.

Lamar Anthony Dawson, 23, of Logan, faces one count a rape, a second-degree felony.

According to a probable cause statement, on February 14, 2019, Dawson exchanged several text messages with the victim about spending time together.

The alleged victim gave Dawn permission to come over to “cuddle,” but she told him not to expect sex because she was drunk and not in the “right mindset to make that decision.”

“OK, if you just wanna chill, come over. But if you expect more, then no,” read one text message, according to charging documents.

A short time later, documents state, Dawson arrived at the victim’s residence and raped her. The following morning, the woman texted Dawson who denied they had had sex.

However, documents state that when he was interviewed by detectives, he admitted to having sex with the woman on the date in question. He told them he lied because “he was afraid she was trying to pin something on him.”

Dawson denied that the woman was “so drunk that she didn’t know what she was doing.”

Officers later determined the alleged victim was on a new medication that when mixed with alcohol likely resulted in “significantly higher impairment.”

Dawson enrolled at USU in June 2018 and was redshirt sophomore, according to the team roster. He is not listed on the Utah State University football roster for 2019. According to the affidavit, he was suspended from all activities involving the team at Utah State.
