SOUTH SALT LAKE (ABC4 News) – Granite Park Junior High School held its 2nd annual Veterans Day celebration Thursday.

During the celebration, students and staff honored seven former students who were killed in action during the Vietnam War.

“This is the spark that can light something lifelong, they can dig, and a lot of these kids will have relatives, there was nobody that was unaffected by any of these conflicts…” said Brayden Nelson, Utah Military History Group Member.

Surviving family members were on hand as the school unveiled a new Vietnam War memorial right by the World War II plaque installed last year.

To add the experience, Granite Park administrators showed recently discovered 8mm film footage of school life in the 1960s and 70s.
