Former special agent shines a light on slavery’s past and present in new book

Local News

As a former special agent for the Department of Homeland Security who has seen the horrors and carnage of war, Timothy Ballard founded a modern-day “underground railroad” which has rescued hundreds of children from being fully enslaved, abused, or trafficked across the globe: Operation Underground Railroad.

His new book titled Slave Stealers: True Accounts of Slave Rescues-Then and Now tells the story of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of slaves from two perspectives: 19th-century first-hand account of Harriet Jacobs and Timothy’s modern-day eyewitness account.

His story includes the rescue and his eventual adoption of two young siblings, Mia and Marky, who were born in Haiti.

The book will be released on September 4 and features a foreword written by NFL head coach Mike Tomlin.
