Former Draper police lieutenant charged with forcible sex abuse

DRAPER, Utah (ABC4 News)- A former lieutenant with the Draper Police Department is accused of forcible sex abuse.

According to court documents, in January of this year, Chad Carpenter groped a fellow employee.

The woman had complications with breast reduction surgery and was on light duty at the time, charging document state.

“Carpenter walked over to [her] and pulled at the bottom of her shirt and said ‘well let me see’,” records state. He then proceeded to lift her shirt up, unzipper her sports bra and grope her, the probable cause states.

City officials say the investigation into Lt. Chad Carpenter began on March 13. He was immediately placed on administrative leave. On Thursday, March 21st city officials say Lt. Carpenter submitted a notice of retirement.

Lt. Carpenter had been with the Draper Police Department since 2003. Carpenter has served as a public information officer for the department. 

Carpenter was charged with two counts of second-degree felony forcible sex abuse. A $50,000 warrant was issued for his arrest Tuesday.
