Former delivery driver accused of stealing $80K in packages

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – A Utah man is accused of stealing hundreds of packages while he worked as a delivery driver. 

Hector Armando Cortes, 34,  was arrested Thursday, after investigators said he stole more than 450 packages worth over $80,000 as a delivery driver with OnTrac. 

According to a probable cause statement filed in the 3rd District Court, the U.S. Postal Inspector identified hundreds of missing or stolen packages on routes Cortes was contracted to deliver for the United States Postal Service and the contractor OnTrac.

OnTrac reported the losses to exceed $80,000. 

On March 7th, Postal Inspector Travis Smoot arrested and recovered stolen property consistent with the investigation and then contacted immigration authorities, who will be proceeding with deportation efforts as part of the felony investigation.
