SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – The former Daggett County sheriff and his deputies made their first court appearance in Summit County Monday.
Former Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen resigned and is now facing charges after prisoners were allegedly abused at his jail.
The inmates were from the Utah State prison, but were being housed at the Daggett County Jail.
A former deputy and former lieutenant face charges ranging from assault to aggravated assault.
The deputies are accused of using a Taser to discipline some of the inmates.
The former sheriff is charged with obstruction of justice for failing to report the alleged incidents.
