Former ABC4 News Anchor talks about addiction

Utah Valley University hosted its ninth annual conference on addiction on Friday.

The single-day conference is designed to address the increasing addiction problem in Utah.

A familiar face attended the conference, former ABC4 News Anchor, Randall Carlisle!

Randall was a keynote speaker at the event, who is now celebrating seven years of sobriety.

He now works with people who are fighting addictions.

“Addiction can happen to anybody. A TV anchor, a lawyer, a doctor–not just the people around Pioneer Park,” said Randall.

After seven years of sobriety, Randall said he wanted to encourage everyone that recovery is possible.

“I have been clean, like I said, for seven years and I just wanted to give a message of hope to people that they can then convey to their clients saying ‘It doesn’t matter where you came from, you can recover and you can lead a successful life’,” he added.

The conference covered a wide range of topics, including opioid overdose prevention, trauma and addiction, mental health, medications, non-chemical addictive behavior and other topics.
