First 24 hours of new .05 law, Troopers didn’t arrest anyone under .08 limit

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – The first 24 hours of the new .05 law has now passed and local law enforcement said it really hasn’t made too much of a difference.

While it has only been one day since the law changed, it is also the busiest time of year DUI arrests. Officials with the Utah Highway Patrol said in the first 24 hours, they made eight arrests for DUI, all of which were over the old .08 BAC.

Last year, troopers said they made 10 arrests in the same time frame.

Col. Michael Rapich said they only want to remind people to be smart about when they are drinking and to make plans for a designated driver, use a ride share, take a cab or choose to stay at home.
