MIDWAY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A member of the Salt Lake Fire Department is honoring the 343 firefighters killed on 9/11 in a unique event.

The event is called the “Tribute Crucible” and is all about paying tribute in a unique and challenging way.

“The Creation of the Tribute Crucible combines the power of doing hard things with an opportunity to carry on the legacies of our heroes,” creator Brandon Heaney said.

The event is held on the anniversary weekend of 9/11 at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway. This year it will be from September 8th to the 9th.

Heaney says the motto is “Always Remember. Always Ready.” He says participants will spend 30+ hours in teams of 15-20 where they will be faced with a series of physical and mental challenges as a way to open them up. He says it’s not a boot camp but a “personal test”.
