PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) – Fire investigators say they have identified the cause of the fire that destroyed the Los Hermanos restaurant on Monday, February 11 in Provo.
According to a press release from Provo Fire and Rescue, the fire started from the prep kitchen in the basement, and it was ruled accidental.
Investigators said towels used in all areas the restaurant had been laundered and placed under the sink. They say these types of towels became soaked with oils over time.
“In the right circumstances,” Authorities said “they can self generate heat until they spontaneously ignite into flame.”
Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield said this type of fire is fairly uncommon, however, they do occur.
There are lots of factors that came into perfect alignment for that caused this type of fire, according to investigators.
