MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Firefighters responded to a small grass in Midvale Wednesday night. Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief said crews responded to 8200 South 700 West just after 8 p.m. on report of grass fire.
When crews arrived, they found a 2-acre fire burning near the river bottoms. At this time, the fire was threatening both commercial and residential properties. One building of the Sunset Apartments was briefly evacuated.
First responders then called for more help. Crews had the fire under control in just under an hour. Fire officials estimate the blaze burned between 10 and 15 acres in total.
A storm moved through the area this evening and lightning may be to blame, but the official cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire officials say given the wind conditions, they feel fortunate not to have lost any structures.
Witness shares details about the fire.
