WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Friends and family gathered Sunday for the funeral of 4-month-old Adalyn Monson.

Baby Adalyn died on May 10 after police say she was shaken by a 16-year-old boy who was babysitting her. Adalyn was rushed to Primay Children’s Hospital for brain surgery but was eventually taken off life support.

Her paternal grandfather Kenneth Monson told ABC4 News he was broke hearted over the incident and offered advice for other parents.

“From my own heart I would ask the public: please don’t let this happen to your family.” said Monson, “The pain is immense. It’s not worth it. We understand when things are hard when you have children and we understand bad tempers. We understand losing a temper but this kind of thing was not excusable. Take care of your children. Make sure you know who it is that is taking care of your children.”

The teen charged with the baby’s death is now in a juvenile detention facility. The family said he was a relative and had been babysitting Adalyn for about a month.

Officials the DAs office will determine what charges will be filed.

A GoFundMe page was created to support the family during this ordeal.
