SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Family of a missing 74-year-old man is asking volunteers to join in the search efforts.

Melvin Heaps went for a day hike Monday in the Crystal Lake area and never returned.

Summit County Sheriff’s deputies later found his car at the trailhead.

After several days of searching, his family says they need help to find him.

“We need the help to find him. We want to bring him home to his family. We’re just asking for as much help as we can get,” said Kevin Bardsley with The Garrett Bardsley Foundation.

The Bardsley Foundation will be coordinated all the volunteers who come to help search.

If you would like to help you can meet Summit County Search and Rescue at the Crystal Lake Trailhead starting at 7 a.m. Friday.

If you are planning to join the efforts, crews ask that you come prepared with the proper shoes, clothing and plenty of water.

The family says they think he was wearing a rust colored shirt with beige vertical stripes, blue jeans and suspenders.

Anyone who might have seen him is asked to call Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
