AMERICAN FORK (News4Utah) – It’s been 10 days since 24-year-old Jerika Binks seemingly vanished after leaving to go for a run Now her family and sheriff’s deputies say they are extremely concerned about her.
On Sunday morning, February 18th Binks’ roommate at a sober living home in American Fork decided not to go for a run with her. Jerika took her cellphone and went alone, leaving behind her ID, money and an uncashed paycheck. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Jed Alvey is Jerika’s older brother.
“It just doesn’t feel right,” Alvey told News4Utah Wednesday. “The way she’s disappeared and gone. You know, for her to leave things and just go it’s not right. Our family deeply down knows something’s wrong here.”
Alvey says Jerika’s phone hasn’t provided any clues.
“It’s been shut off,” he said. “They’ve been trying to locate it, ping it, whatever and they can’t…it’s been shut off so they can’t get a signal off of it.”
Jerika is 5 feet 4 inches tall and 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a distinctive pair of black and yellow Vibram Five Finger Signa running shoes. Her older brothersaid Jerika had been through some rough times but was turning her life around.
“She’s been working, she’s been doing the right things,” Alvey said. “That’s what’s so tough. Right as we started to see a little bit of hope and light and sign and now this.”
Alvey says she would typically go running along the Murdock Canal Trail. He’s planning a search of this area this weekend if the weather cooperates.
“It’s been heartbreaking,” Alvey said. “It’s just really taken an impact on the family pretty good. It’s tough. You know it’s a little sibling, a daughter, a sister…It’s too hard to describe what it feels like. It’s pretty tough.”
He has a message for her.
“We want her to know that we love her,” Alvey said. “We want her back. We want to do anything we can to get her back to with us and our family and safe.”
