Facebook said last week that their recent breach was likely the work of spammers and not a nation state, Utah Valley University Cybersecurity expert Robert Jorgensen joined us in studio to explain.
Jorgensen said spammers have a very different motive than a nation-state. Nation states are typically looking for information for various intelligences purposes, spammers are mostly looking to make a buck.
Spammers take the information they receive and use the information for targeted spam.
Jorgensen suggests you be extra cautious when looking at email and text messages. Especially if they have a sense of urgency or somehow threaten that there are some awful consequences if you don’t send money to them. He also suggests keeping a close watch on financial accounts.
