SALT LAKE CITY, Utah- (ABC4 News) – After years of trying, LGTBQ advocates are optimistic about a bill to strengthen penalties for hate crimes in Utah.

Senate Bill 103, sponsored by Senator Daniel Thatcher unanimously passed through a Senate committee on Thursday.

That same day, House Bill 399, sponsored by Representative Craig Hall and Senator Dan McCay was unveiled at the Capitol.

The bill bans the practice of conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth in Utah.

Troy Williams with Equality Utah joins us for Inside Utah Politics this week to discuss those bills and other issues from this legislative session.
