It’s time for Bountiful Handcart Days. To celebrate, guests can attend a parade, free concert in the park, a half marathon, food, games and even more entertainment!
The 65th annual Grand Parade along Main Street in Bountiful, Utah will begin on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. The parade, which is the second largest in Utah, is the capstone event of a two-day celebration at Bountiful City Park (located at 100 West 400 North) featuring pioneer games for children, live entertainment, and food. The 1.8 mile parade route begins at 1500 South Main Street and proceeds north to 400 North, then west to 100 West. Former Bountiful City Manager Tom Hardy is the Grand Marshal, and he will lead 100 entries.
Spectators may begin saving spots along the parade route at 7 AM on Friday. Games at the park include pioneer games, talking to mountain men, climbing a wall, inflatables and a train rides. Hot dogs, smoothies, fried scones, Navajo tacos, pulled-pork sandwiches and more will be available for purchase at the park. The park activities are designed to give children an idea as to how pioneer families lived.
After the parade, Carmen Rasmusen Herbert will be performing a free concert in the park. The concert is sponsored by Mountain American Credit Union. The Leaping Lulu Band, a neo-traditional Irish folk band, will perform at 9:15 p.m. as accompaniment for square dancing. A Handcart Days fireworks show will be provided by Bountiful City on Friday evening at 10:00 PM at Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful.
The half marathon kicks off at 6:00 AM on Saturday, followed by a 5K at 7 a.m. The Bountiful Lions Club will serve a chuck wagon breakfast in the park from 7-10:30 AM on Saturday. Food, games, and entertainment will be available in the park on Friday from Noon-9:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 PM.
The live entertainment also features Sheltered Reality Drumline, Ballet Folklorico Tuttuli, Lime Ricky, Bluegrass Thunder, the Bountiful High Jazz Band, the Palkki and Cox Family Band, Maddie Wilson, Celtic Beat Irish Dancers and Endless Summer Band.
Handcart Days is a volunteer-driven event, where citizens of Bountiful, Centerville, North Salt Lake, West Bountiful and Woods Cross come together in a great cause and provide many hours of community service. Bountiful Handcart Days is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the sponsorship of the Bountiful Handcart Days celebration held annually to remember and commemorate the contributions and sacrifices of pioneers in the past, at present, and in the future.
