SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) –The Eccles Theater debuted its first-ever holiday tree installation Friday.

The holiday tree reminiscent of the perfect snow-covered tree standing silently in the forest was designed by Salt Lake City artists Sophia Malik and Nelson Hansen.

“The opportunity to design and install a beautiful piece of art in a significant architectural landmark such as the Eccles Theater is a milestone for us,” said Malik and Hansen.  “We are thrilled to offer the community this inspirational piece for the holiday season.”

The installation is housed in the Eccles Grand Lobby. The dramatic installation can be seen through the theater’s five-story glass wall facing Main Street.

“Each year, we will feature an artist-designed, one-of-a-kind, non-traditional, art installation, adding an element of surprise and wonder for the public,” said Valerie Price, Salt Lake County Public Art Manager.

Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams said he believes this new tradition with be a highlight of downtown’s holiday celebration.

This year’s installation will remain in the Eccles Theater Grand Lobby through January 2, 2019.
