Duplex a total loss after fire in Alpine

Local News

ALPINE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Fire crews responded to a large house fire Friday evening.

The fire at a home at 108 South 100 West in Alpine appeared to have started in the garage —destroying that garage and several vehicles.

“I just started balling and I couldn’t stop crying. It’s just hard,” said Deja Bradshaw, who lives in the home.

Her mother heard unusual sounds from the garage around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

“The side of the garage was on fire here, and it was catching quickly. I was yelling at the kids to get out,” said Karen Hampson, who was eating lunch with her kids at the time the fire started.

“Things just kept exploding. And then we had a huge box of fireworks in there from Costco. Fireworks were just flying out of the garage,” added Hampson.

Hampson says she and her family had been living in the home as renters.

“It’s hard, mainly because we didn’t have renter’s insurance. And so, most of what’s inside is damaged, and not gonna be covered. So that’s what’s tough.”

The fire’s cause is still under investigation.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the Hampson family.
