WEST VALLEY CITY (News4Utah)- Nearly 1,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers are without power Wednesday morning after officials say a teen driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole.

Police say around 8:20 a.m. the 17-year-old driver fell asleep while driving near 4100 South and 6400 West. He hit a power pole and continued across the street where he then ran into a power box.

The collision caused lines to hit the roadway, but luckily, authorities say the teen was not injured.

Wires from the pole sparked a small fire in nearby weeds, officials said, but fire crews were able to put out the flames.

Officials say all thru lanes are open, but there will be no left turns in the area as crews work to clean up the mess.
