SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Some drivers in Utah who got pulled over by police got a lot more than a ticket or a warning on Saturday.
They got holiday gifts, gift cards, and even cold, hard cash, thanks to the Salt Lake Unified Police Department and the Utah Attorney General’s Office.
They call it Operation Giveback. The driver of a Subaru who was pulled over on State Street was rewarded with tools from Home Depot, essential oils from DoTerra, toys for his daughter, a gift card and cash.
“What’s nice is I know a lot of people who could benefit from this and so it’s a good example of the police officers giving back to the community and in turn we know people that can be in need of these kind of gifts so it just perpetuates,” said the unidentified man. “Good service you know lends itself to good service. This is kind of cool. I’m going to call my Dad right now and say I just got flagged by 3 police cars.”
Attorney General Sean Reyes says Operation Giveback is a way for officers to show they care about the people they serve and protect.
