DRAPER, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Unified Fire Authority passed the baton to the newly formed Draper City Fire Dept. Friday morning in a ceremonial transfer of power.
The new fire department was approved last year by Draper City Council.
For 22 years, Unified Fire has served citizens of Draper. Many of the firefighters with UFA who worked in Draper will be transferred to other stations throughout the valley. Currently, Unified Fire serves nine cities in the Salt Lake area.
Smith said becoming the fire chief in his own town is humbling.
“This is the community I grew up in,” said Smith, ” so to be able to build this fire department from the ground up is a great honor for me in my life.”
The department was officially formed Friday.
