Draper City Council votes to remove police chief

Local News

DRAPER, Utah (ABC4 Utah) –Draper City Council voted to make a major change within the police department Tuesday night.

Draper City Police Chief Bryan Roberts was fired. Roberts had been in charge of the department since August 6, 2012.

City council voted 4 to 0 with one abstention to approve resolution number 1771 terminating Roberts’ employment effective immediately without cause.

The resolution only states the move was in the “best interest of the city.”  In April, Roberts was voted as Police Chief of the Year for a mid-sized Agency by the Utah Police Chiefs Association.

A city councilman who did not want to speak on camera said that three months ago, Roberts resigned to become chief in another Utah city, but that job fell through.
