Disney Channel actor arrested on charge of enticing a minor

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – An actor in a Disney Channel TV series was arrested on charges of enticing a minor Friday.

Stoney Westmoreland, 48, is accused of enticing a minor by internet or text.  

Westmoreland plays the main character’s grandfather on the show Andi Mack which films in Utah. He as also appeared in other popular TV shows including several episodes ABC drama Scandal.

According to a probable cause statement, Westmoreland began chatting with a person on an internet app used for dating and meeting people for the “purpose of engaging sexual activity.”

Investigators said Westmoreland was chatting with a person he believed to 13 years old.

Documents state Westmoreland asked the person to engage in sex acts including oral sex. Westmoreland also allegedly sent the person four pornographic photos and asked for nude photos in return.

Investigators said Westmoreland took a ride share service to a Salt Lake City address with the intention picking up the person with whom he had been chatting with to then return to his hotel room “in order to engage in sexual activity.”

He was taken into custody by Salt Lake City police and members of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force. He faces one count of enticing a minor and four counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor. 

Shortly after hearing the news of Westmoreland’s arrest, Disney announced they had severed ties with the actor. 

“Stoney Westmoreland, an actor working on the series ‘Andi Mack,’ was arrested in Salt Lake City today,” a rep for Disney Channel said in a statement Friday night. “Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.”

The age of the alleged victim is the same as the central characters on Andi Mack and young actors who play them. The comedy, created by Terri Minsky, follows 13-year-old Andi Mack and her best friends, Cyrus Goodman and Buffy Driscoll, as they attend middle school.
