HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC4) – A SWAT incident is ongoing in Herriman Thursday morning.
While information is limited at this time, police say the incident is happening at 11815 S. Rushmore Park Lane.
According to Deputy Chief Stromberg with Herriman City Police, the incident started around 6:45 a.m. when officers responded to a reported break-in.
A neighbor witnessed a woman break the back window of a home and go inside.
Police soon realized that this was the same woman who had reportedly caused “a disturbance” at a nearby Taco Bell, determining she was armed with a knife.
Officers entered the home where the woman had broken in and used less-lethal rounds on her. She then barricaded herself in a bedroom where she began threatening to kill officers who entered, according to Deputy Chief Stromberg.
Officers at the scene have made contact with the woman multiple times, but Stromberg says she has made it clear that she is not planning to come out of the room.
The woman has not yet been identified but she is believed to be a 30 to 35-year-old woman.
The situation remains ongoing.
While there is no active threat to the public, the community is asked to avoid the area.
ABC4 has a crew en route to the scene to gather more information on this developing story.
