CLINTON, Utah (News4Utah) – Police have identified a 21-year-old as a victim in Monday night’s shooting.
Clinton police said Deven Tomas Gallegos was found dead in a car in Clearfield, a short distance from an earlier shooting.
It began around 9:30 p.m. in Clinton.
“I heard about eight gunshots and came out to see what was happening,” said Deran Weaver who lives along 1000 West. “All I saw was a black SUV take off in that direction and that’s all I saw.”
Across the street, another neighbor peeked out after hearing the gunfire. He told his son what he saw.
“It was about five gunshots is what he heard,” said Arturo Coria. “He looked out the window and saw this white car and it did like a U-turn and went over there.”
In all, police responded to several calls of shots fired in the area of 1132 N. 1000 W. Police initially investigated the incident as a drive-by shooting after receiving multiple reports of cars leaving the area without headlights.
During their investigation, authorities were called to 300 S. State in Clearfield where Gallegos was found shot and killed in a vehicle. Another person was in the car but was unharmed. Police confirm the car was involved in the shootings in Clinton.
Authorities have issued search warrants to two separate vehicles and one home in Clinton. Police detained the homeowner but he was released after being questioned. A spokesman for the Clinton police department said they have not confirmed a description of the second vehicle that was seen by neighbors in Clinton. At this time, police have no suspects but have received numerous tips and continue to follow those leads.
