SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC4 Utah) August 12 will be a big day for the future of Salt Lake County. We will find out who will replace Jim Winder as sheriff, the top crime fighter in the county. Winder resigned to become the police chief of Moab.
By law, his replacement will be decided by the 1,100 delegates of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party central committee.
They will meet at 9am that Saturday in the main auditorium of the Salt Lake Community College Miller Campus. After speeches from the 6 people seeking to replace Winder, the delegates will vote. Their decision will then be passed on to the Salt Lake County Council for approval, which is expected.
The winner will serve the remainder of Winder’s term through the end of 2018. Voters will decide in the general election that year who will serve the next full four year term that begins in 2019.
ABC4 Utah will be covering that all important vote on August 12.
