SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) In a step to make downtown Salt Lake City the arts and entertainment hub of the Intermountain West, Managing SLC Presents won the bid to manage the Cultural Core Action Plan project.
The joint project between Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County aims to enhance and promote arts, culture and entertainment in the Capitol City’s center.
At a press conference Monday, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams said the project will connect a weak link, where visitors come to see one event and then go home.
Leaders got together in 2010 to start the process to connect the so-called dead space, bring culture and art onto the streets and to promote the core on an a national and international stage.
“We know that creating a vibrant and culturally connected community will enhance the quality of life and draw attention to Utah’s unique story of art,” Mayor McAdams said.
Since 2015, sales tax from the core of the city has been set aside to help fund the projects and marketing of the cultural core.
