SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – The local organization Soul Food USA held their seventh annual Christmas Chili Night for the homeless this evening in downtown Salt Lake City.
Over 300 volunteers gathered in the Rio Grande area to serve their homeless guests a hot chili dinner with cornbread, cake and hot cocoa, as well as to give out Christmas stockings filled with a hat, gloves and some fun stocking stuffers.
“We all have Christmas parties with our work, our family and our friends,” Wendy Starling with Soul Food USA told News4Utah. “We just thought how neat it would be to be able to give that opportunity to the homeless as well.”
The mission of Soul Food USA is to give food to the hungry, hope to the lonely, to remind each person that no matter their circumstances, they do matter.
