Child who nearly drowned at South Jordan pool saved by bystander

Local News

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – A young girl is recovering after some scary moments at a South Jordan pool Friday night.

Tina Brown, South Jordan City’s public information officer, said the incident happened Friday afternoon at the South Jordan Fitness and Aquatics Center at 10866 South Redwood Road during their open swim session.

“A child, under the age of 10, was showing signs of distress when a bystander noticed and flagged down a lifeguard,” Brown said.

“They were able to start CPR on the child and also used the AED Defibrillator before police and fire arrived.”

The South Jordan Fire Department is very close to the rec center so they were on scene within minutes.

Brown said the girl was taken to the hospital and firefighters said the girls condition improved significantly en route to the hospital.

Brown said she was uncertain who was with the child at the pool or if she was wearing any flotation gear.
