Child dies after boating accident at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

NAVAJO CANYON, Ariz. (ABC4 Utah) – A 6-month-old boy is dead after a boating accident at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Sunday.

The accident happened when a houseboat was trying to dock on a beach near Navajo Canyon. It’s about 12 miles from Antelope Point Marina.

The boat had 13 people onboard including several small children. Officials say when the houseboat struck the beach and adult fell on the child.

First responders rendered emergency first aid and the child was rushed to Page Hospital for further evaluation. From there, the boy was transported to a Salt Lake City hospital where he later died early Monday morning.

The boy’s family lives in Bluffdale.

The incident is under investigation by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the National Park Service and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
