SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – A Utah man is accused of raping multiple children at a home where his mother ran a daycare business.

Theodore Joseph Heaps, 35, is charged with multiple counts of child rape and sodomy upon a child in connection with the alleged offenses that date back as far as 1998 when he was a teenager.

According to a probable cause statement, in September 2018, a 30-year-old woman reported to Salt Lake City Police Department that she had been repeatedly raped beginning at age 12. The woman told police she met Heaps at his home in Salt Lake County where she had been taken to be babysat by Heap’s mother.

Charging documents indicate a 26-year-old man also came forward with allegations that he was sodomized by Heaps when he was 6 or 7 years old. The man also told investigators it happened at Heaps’ home where he had been taken to babysat.

Documents state at least one other person came forward with similar allegations against Heap.

Police said during an interview, Heaps confessed to “sexually abusing many children who were under the care of his mother’s daycare business.” Investigators said he also went on to name “numerous children by name whom he had molested.”

Heaps is charged with two counts of child rape and three counts of child sodomy. He was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
