SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) – Paul Casper Merrill, CEO and President of Casper’s Ice Cream Inc., was named Small Business Association’s 2018 Small Business Person of the Year for Utah.

“Casper’s has been a tremendous partnership for Mountain West,” said John Evans, President of Mountain West Small Business Finance. “We nominated Paul because, under his leadership, the Fat Boy ice cream and its sister-brands have proven to be an exemplary model of success in small business. We have been honored to partner with such an incredible small business leader and are grateful the SBA shares our understanding of the incredible achievements of Merrill and Casper’s Ice Cream.”

Casper’s Ice Cream, based out of Richmond, Utah, is “one of the nation’s leading manufacturer of ice cream and frozen treats,” according to its website. Casper’s is best known as the maker of Fat Boy Ice Cream treats.

Under Merrill’s leadership, Evans said the company highlights some keys for an effective small business, namely a growth mindset, proven sustainability, recognizing employees as a clear key to success and remaining true to the local economy by sourcing as many of the products locally as possible which supports rural northern Utah companies.
