BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC4 News) – Firefighters are reminding residents to remember to clear fire hydrants of snow after a recent incident caused a delay in their efforts in fighting a house fire Saturday morning.

In a post on the South Davis Fire District Facebook, they said they were called to a fire at 962 south terrace drive in Bountiful Saturday morning.

In a later post, they said the cause of the fire was a cooking accident inside the garage.

Firefighters said they were delayed in obtaining access to the fire hydrant due to it being covered in snow.

They ended their post with a request:

“Please dig out your hydrants”

Cities and townships have different ordinances for clearing of snow but Chief Jeff Bassett with South Davis Metro Fire said it is actually in the fire code that if a hydrant is on your property, you are responsible for clearing it of snow.
