PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News)- A new study conducted by BYU shows that playing video games at work can actually be good for productivity.

The research come from a team of BYU business professors who found that playing video games in a team-building environment at work could help increase productivity by up to 20 percent.

The researchers randomly divided 352 participants into 80 teams, who were then divided into one of three condition groups for the experiment.

Each team was tasked with competing in a geocaching competition called “Findamine”. After the competition, the team either played video games like Rock Band or Halo 4 for 45 mins, completed a goal setting activity together, or did homework alone. Afterward they would play “Findamine” again.

Those who participated in playing video games had an increase of 20 percent in productivity in their subsequent geocaching competition.
