PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Utah)-Brigham Young University is changing its policy on handling sexual assaults.

From now on, a victim or witnesses to a sexual assault will get amnesty and will not be punished for related violations to the school’s honor code, such as drinking or using drugs.

The school announced the policy Friday.

The policy hopes to encourage the reporting of sexual misconduct.
