Boy, 6, ejected in South Jordan crash

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (News4Utah) – A 6-year-old boy was ejected in a two-car crash in South Jordan Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 4 p.m. at southbound Bangerter Highway and 11400 South.

A passenger car was traveling northbound on Bangerter  and trying to make a left turn to go west at the intersection. An off-duty Unified Police Department officer was traveling south.

Police say the passenger car turned on a red light. The officer had green light and proceeded. The cars collided.

The 6-year-old boy was thrown from the car. He was rushed to Primary Children’s Hospital via medical helicopter in critical condition. Police say his injuries are life-threatening. The driver, a 46-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

The officer did not receive any medical treatment.

Investigators with the Crash Analysis Reconstruction team are currently investigating the crash and whether or not the child was in a seatbelt or proper child restraint.
