[UPDATE 6/22]

Officials with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality announced Thursday the boil order in Torrey has been lifted for the majority of the area.

Homes and businesses north east of of the Broken Spur are still under boil order. Tests results may lift Friday, officials say.

TORREY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A local state of emergency has been declared in Torrey after a waterline break.

It happened on June 15th. Officials say the break in the line stopped the flow of water to storage tanks that supplies the drinking water system and now the system is out of water.

“The cost and magnitude of responding to and recovering from the impact of this event is far in excess of the county’s available resources” a letter from elected officials said.

The Wayne County Fire Departments and local contractors have provided water tankers to help supply non-potable water for essential home use. Certified culinary water trucks are being brought into Wayne County to help fill the tanks to re-charge the culinary water system.

The Central Utah Public Health Department is on site and taking water samples. A boil order remains in effect until further notice; all restaurants have been shut down until the boil order has been lifted.

Motels remain open and are providing drinking water for guests as they check in.

Torrey Town residents are encouraged to check in on seniors, neighbors and friends needing assistance.

For more information, call the Torrey Town Office at (435) 425 3600.
